Automation in Latin America: Are Women at Higher Risk of Losing Their Jobs?

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which comprises digitization, artificial intelligence, robotics, among others, have the power to drastically increase economic output but may also displace workers. In this paper we assess risk of automation for female and male workers in four Latin American countries – Bolivia, Chile, Colombia El Salvador. Our study is first apply a task-based approach with gender perspective region. main findings indicate that men are more likely than women perform tasks linked ‘skills future’, such as STEM (science, technology, engineering mathematics), information communications management communication, creative problem-solving tasks. Women thus higher average automation, 21% vs. 19% at high (probability greater 70%). differential impacts new technological trends must be assessed order guide policy-making process prepare future. Finally, country- level specific actions should taken prevent digital transformation from worsening existing inequalities labor market.
